Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people encompassing language, religion, food, marriage, social habits, music, arts, what we wear and how we wear it. It is different all over the world. Basically, Culture is the way life. Today, we will dive into Nigeria culture but Yoruba Food, and Clothing. 

Yoruba are a west African ethnic group that mainly inhabit parts of Nigeria, Benin, and Togo. The areas of these Countries primarily inhabited by the Yoruba are often collectively referred to as Yorubaland. The Yoruba constitute more than 50 million people in Africa. and over a million outside the Continent. 



YORUBA FOOD
  • AMALA: Amala can be served with either Gbegiri (BEANS SOUP) or Ewedu (Vegetable soup).


  • EFO RIRO:  Efo riro is a popular Yoruba food enrich with Vegetables, the soup is rich in vitamins, and it helps to build blood cells.

  • IKOKORE: Ikokore is one of the precious foods eaten by the IJEBU-ODE people of Ogun state. It is delicious and mouth-watering.

  • EWA AGOYIN: Every Nigeria Beans fan loves Ewa-Agayin because it is composed of cooked Beans and Pepper sauce.

  • MOI-MOI: Moi-Moi is one of my favorite Yoruba foods which is very abundant in protein. It is extremely tasty and yummy.


YORUBA CLOTHING
The Yoruba native dress is known as Agbada, Buba and Sokoto, Dashiki for men, while Women wear attires known as Iro-Buba and Gele, Aso-Oke.

  • AGBADA:  Years ago, Agbada was a native attire considered exclusive for rich Yoruba men alone. however, it has evolved to become a unisex attire.




  • BUBA and SOKOTO: Buba and Sokoto is a native attire considered exclusive for men. 

  • Dashiki: Dashiki is a colourful traditional fabric shirt from the Yoruba people. It is also called Kitenge in East Africa. This type of garment is unisex. 

  • IRO-BUBA and GELE: Iro and Buba is a Nigerian attire worn by the Yoruba people of the Westerners with the Iro being the wrapper and Buba the blouse. The attire is worn with a beautiful head tie usually the colour of the Iro known as the Gele.

  • Aso-OKE:  Aso-Oke pronounced (ah-SHAW-okay) is a hand-woven cloth created by Yoruba people of West Africa.
